Food and Drinks | Social in Whitefield | Bangalore
Five of us had been over for dinner. It was our first visit to Social. It was on our bucket list for a very long time. I personally prefer going out to quiet places. But, if am going out with a bunch of people, it would definitely be an eatery with loud music or even a club for that matter. Social is such a place where loud music is played and people literally scream to have a conversation. I loved the ambience too. There were light bulbs lit all over the place and the place can be a bit dull and not jarring in your eyes. We enjoyed the music too. Some of the tracks they played were 90’s hits.
When customers go out to a restaurant for a meal, they go for the full experience, not just for the food itself. They want to be treated and feel special, and the ambience of an establishment most certainly contributes to these feelings. The right ambience will allow customers to look around and enjoy themselves, and maybe even stay longer than they planned, simply because they want to soak in the atmosphere of the place. Social is such a place. It is spacious, has a lot of comfort and is managed well.
I could only order 2 Budweiser beers after which it was over. Though I had other options, I stopped with just two beers.
The lounge does have Corono and other beers too. But a majority of the customers love drinking the popular in-house cocktails and drinks.
We ordered for a Lava Cake. It was a fancy (and old) experience watching the chocolate ganache being poured on top of the cake to melt. The cake had layers of Chocolate Cake, Dark Chocolate Mousse, Caramel Mousse, and Nutty Chocolate Mousse.
I sometimes love and enjoy new food experiments. So, I ordered this dessert and I did not like it at all. For the first time in my life, I felt pukish after eating a dessert. I hated the combination and the experience left me whining about this choice and spoilt whatever I enjoyed eating for dinner. I am a huge fan of Bacon so I wanted to try this dish. I have tried many dessert experiments at home too but I have never felt pukish. I have a massive sweet-tooth and a dessert must stand out. There has been times I have hated the main course and/or starters but always left the place with a smile because of a delicious dessert.
I did not try this dessert because I was not in the mood of eating or drinking anything after getting a bad feeling from the bacon dessert. But I was told by my friends that the dessert was delicious. May be I should have ordered for the dessert that was recommended to me by the waiter.
The service at Social was topnotch. They have definitely hired friendly staff who also understand about food combinations, what tastes good, so that they can recommend customers dishes that can suit their tastes and preferences. But, the customer must feel free to ask the waiters too. Our Captain/Waiter was super friendly and before ordering I did ask him if there are any less healthy or baked food for starters and main course. He immediately said a resounding NO. He said “Sir, we only serve deep fried food here” and that left with me not many options. He recommended me “Lamb Massamam Curry” and “Croquettish” and they were by far the best dishes that I ate that night. The other dishes that we ordered, he did not recommend it to me but I still experimented and I hated them. It was the first time in many years that a restaurant got it absolutely spot on for me. So if I do visit Social in Phoenix Market City, I would undoubtedly request the same waiter to take orders and recommend me dishes.
Unfortunately there was no system until recently to help restaurants and staffs to understand and remember their customers’ tastes, preferences and behaviour patters. Technology today can help staff know their customers better so to serve and create a topnotch experience. There is a mobile app in India called “itsmyloyalty” (a behavioural tech startup in Bengaluru) and it tracks customers’ tastes, preferences and behaviour patterns. It collects and analyse unit level data of what customers eat, drink, buy, spend, et cetera so the businesses can then use this to increase customer retention, improve customer experience, and possibly increase revenue too.
foodeebuddee (an old food app) has now rebranded and launched as itsmyloyalty to help different types of businesses.
itsmyloyalty allows businesses to customise loyalty and referral programs and captures and analyses customers’ tastes, preferences and behaviour patterns.
A feedback card was given to us at the end. I indicated that I’ll be blogging about my experience. Within 10 minutes of our exit, the chef called one of us to ask about our feedback. I found that amazing because in my experience no restaurant manager or executive has ever contacted in such a short span of time. That I call “awesome customer service” and Social definitely does know how to treat their customers and ensure they continue providing an ecstatic experience. We could not talk to the chef immediately hence requested to be contacted the next day. And unfortunately when they called the second time, they caught us once again at the wrong moment. If they genuinely wanted to receive feedback, they should have contacted again. But, I appreciate their interest and intent for taking the effort and contacting us. That gesture speaks volumes about a business.
