“Le Royal Méridien exposes the curious and creative-minded traveller to the most unexpected and engaging experiences a destination has to offer.” Yes, that is so true for a traveller like me who is constantly on the move and travels more than 2000 miles a week or fortnight for business and pleasure. I love Wines and have been drinking from the age of 8. I was first introduced to a Wine by my Doctor when we went to a restaurant in one of Chennai’s popular hotels. At that time, I had no clue about wines or what I was really drinking. But, over the years, I have been drinking different Wines from different parts of the World, have toured Vineyards, attended many Wine Tasting events and even cook with White Wine quite regularly.
On Wednesday, 26th October 2016, I was invited by Le Royal Méridien for a Wine Tasting session that included food too. The Dome Restaurant ambience looks elegant, and has lights that are purposely dimmed to create a cozy feeling so one could relax and enjoy the food and drinks. I personally loved the ambience and the atmosphere at The Dome. The delicious cuisine and fine wine is an integral part of the heritage and tradition of Le Méridien Hotel. Mr Richard, who is in charge of the restaurant, gave us a brief description of the wine collection The Dome has.
The hotel has a cellar and Wines from Australia, South Africa, Italy, Spain, Chile, France and many more countries are stored and sold to the public. Wines are kept in the cellar at different temperatures based on their origin and flavours. It could range from 5 degree C to 12 degree C.
We had a glass of Linderman’s Chardonnay (world’s most famous white-wine grape and also one of the most widely planted) at the beginning.
Some details about the Wine:
Root Vegetables and Squashes
White – Buttery and Complex
And there was a cheese platter that was placed on the table. Some of my favourite cheeses were part of the platter. I must confess that am a big Cheese lover.
100% Sauvignon blanc.
Grapes are harvested as soon as they are ripe to capture the most aromas possible. The wine is made in stainless steel vats at a low temperature, to preserve the aromas. It is aged over fine lees to provide more flavour.
Tasting notes :
Shiny, crystalline colour with green tints.
A delicate nose made up of white orchard fruits and citrus.
Dry and yet at the same time providing bright, elegant fruity notes, this wine will delight with its pleasant citrus finish.
Ideal as an aperitif, this wine will go perfectly with fish, shellfish, seafood and also goat’s cheese.
6 to 8 °C
2 to 3 years

This red wine was so tasty that I continued to have it with my main course i.e Chateaubriand Steak.
METHOD OF PRODUCTION
The grape maceration does not last longer than 5-6 days, and takes place at a temperature of 24-25° C.
This enables to obtain a good colour extraction without encumbering the tannin structure and maintaining a good
aromatic freshness. The wine is released after an appropriatebottle aging.
THE WINEMAKER COMMENT
One of the best known and appreciated Banfi labels in the world, Col di Sasso, which translates to “Stony Hill”, is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese cultivated on the most rocky and impervious slopes of the Banfi estate in Montalcino. The perfect marriage between these two grapes gives birth to a youthful yet concentrated and extremely fruity red wine.

The chicken starter was very tasty as the meat was tender and cooked really well. If I did not have a lot of cheese, I may have gorged on more chicken for starters.
I ordered for a Chateaubriand for the main course but this is what I got.
What is Chateaubriand? The steak is a meat dish cooked with a thick cut from the tenderloin filet. In contemporary times, chateaubriand cuts of beef refer to “a large steak cut from the thickest part of a fillet of beef”. Learn how to cook the Chateaubriand.
My uncle ordered for Fish and Chips to have with Sauvignon Blanc Wine. He said it was really tasty.
After our Wine Dinner and Wine Tasting Session, Mr Richard showed us the club/pub fun discotheque which was recently renovated and launched. It has a big dance floor for all who love dancing to the DJ’s tunes.
Here are some photos of people clubbing and partying at 1 GST, Le Meridien Hotel, Chennai.
Le Meridien Hotel is quite an old and popular property in Chennai. Even the recent successful film “Kabali” acted by Superstar Rajinikanth, saw its success meet.
